Bulldozers closing in on Pilcomayo communities

We have recently had news of an American-owned company that is proposing to clear a large tract of forest (over 55,000 acres) right in the midst of traditional indigenous territory.

The following map shows the proposed area of deforestation in red. it also shows two broad regions of territory used by groups of Wichí communities, each of which is trying to desperately have its historical rights to these lands legally recognized by the state.

Andrew is hoping to attend a public enquiry on the issue, which will take place on Monday (02 07 07). We will post more news on this as soon as we can.
